Swedish mineral strategy (2026)
The government launched a mineral strategy that treats access to metals and minerals as a matter of security as well as industrial policy. It sets measures in eight areas, including simpler permitting, access to land and water, economic security and preparedness, international cooperation, exploration attractiveness, research, resource efficiency and recycling, and public acceptance. The Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) is tasked with following up the targets.

Six county administrative boards designated as permitting contact points under the EU Critical Raw Materials Act
The government tasked the county administrative boards of Västerbotten, Dalarna, Stockholm, Örebro, Västra Götaland and Skåne to act as single points of contact under the EU Critical Raw Materials and Net-Zero Industry regulations. They inform companies about permitting, set timetables and coordinate procedures for critical raw material projects, with SEK 20 million allocated for 2025.

Amendment to the Minerals Act (SFS 2024:325): Natura 2000 permit no longer a precondition for an exploitation concession
Following government bill 2023/24:126, the Riksdag amended the Minerals Act (1991:45) so that a Natura 2000 permit, where needed, is no longer required before an exploitation concession can be granted; it is instead assessed together with the environmental permit. The amendment also clarifies that the environmental impact statement for a concession only needs the scope and detail required for that decision. The government presented it as part of streamlining mine permitting.
