Mining Act amendments 2017: ban on export of raw minerals and concentrates

Amendments to the Mining Act require all minerals won to be beneficiated in Tanzania before being dealt with, and state that no licence or permit may be issued to export raw minerals or mineral concentrates. They also give the government a non-dilutable free-carried interest of at least 16% in mining companies and raise royalty rates. The Act took effect on publication.

National Gold and Gemstone Reserve (Mining Act amendments 2017)

The same 2017 amendments provide for a National Gold and Gemstone Reserve, to be set up by ministerial order, holding royalties paid in refined minerals, confiscated minerals and minerals bought by the government. One third of the royalty due is to be paid by depositing refined minerals into the reserve.
